“I will humbly accept that toast” she responded, without taking her eyes off his. “To you.” She held up her glass. “For loving me unconditionally, for making me completely comfortable, and for supporting my every notion. You are the husband I’ve always hoped for, but didn’t dare dream existed.” She kissed him before taking another sip of champagne.

She set down the glass, and began undressing him.

When he was naked, she took another sip of champagne and without swallowing, quietly slipped to her knees. She would normally have spent more time teasing him, but took his hard cock straight into her mouth, the effervescent bubbles dancing against his shaft.

“What the fuck?” he asked, looking down at her.

She swirled her tongue around, moving the bubbles against his skin. She swallowed, and then licked the sweet liquid from his shaft. She licked and kissed her way around, and then smiled.

“What’s so funny?” he asked, noticing the change in her expression.

“Not funny,” she responded, slowly swirling her fingers around each sack. “I was just remembering the look in your eyes the first time I did this.”

He inhaled sharply as she twirled and skimmed her tongue against his cock. “I remember.” He ran his fingers through her hair. “I remember you had a very naughty expression on your face.” She brushed her warm tongue up his shaft. “You took me by surprise.” He looked down at her. “Sexiest surprise I’ve ever had,” he added, tracing his finger across her cheek.

He pulled her to her feet and with urgency, began to unzip her dress. She slipped it off, setting it across a chair as she walked toward the bed. He glanced at her as she walked away, and suddenly jumped to the edge of the bed, spying the addition of an elaborate butterfly on her back. “What is that?” he gasped, his eyes wide with wonder. She looked over her shoulder at him, turning slightly to see his expression.

“Oh, this?” She tapped her lower back. “That’s your wedding present.”

“You didn’t!” he exclaimed, running his hand over the intricate design.

“It’s henna. It’s temporary,” she whispered as he kissed his way down her back to gently kiss each delicate wing.

“It’s beautiful,” he murmured, his voice thick with desire.

She lunged slightly, causing the wings to flutter as her body moved.

He muttered a string of expletives as he pulled off her panties, removed her bra, and quickly pulled her onto the bed. He sat down on the edge of the mattress, his long legs stretched out in front of him. She kissed him before turning her back to him, straddling her knees on each side of his thighs. He held his hard shaft as she lowered herself onto it. The tattoo danced as she spread her hips, taking him into her pussy. She slowly rose, looking between her legs at his glistening shaft as she lowered again.

“How long,” he gasped as she rose again, “will this last?”

“Two,” she lowered, “maybe three weeks.” She missed seeing his expression, listening instead to his slow moans and subtle changes in breathing.

“Good,” he groaned. “Because I’m not going to last another minute.”

She smiled to herself, quickening her pace. His minute turned into ten and her legs began to tire when she heard him inhale sharply. She watched his toes curl as his thighs twitched under her hands. She slowly rode him until he put his hand on her hips, and leaned forward to embrace her. “Thank you,” he whispered. They sat quietly until he slipped from her.

He helped her to her feet and pulled her into bed, and they recounted the day together before making love until the early hours of the morning.

  * * * *

On the morning of November 5, Kate acknowledged the anniversary of her election to the mayor’s office by driving through the streets of Lowden, taking in the many changes that had materialized in the year. She found herself driving toward the business park that had been a vacant field of grass, and was now an area that was bustling with activity. She continued past the parcel once known as lot eight, now home to a beautiful series of office buildings housing hundreds of employees working on high-tech projects. She drove past the ten-acre parcel that was now owned by Bannerman Technology, two buildings of the sprawling campus already under construction. She finally came to a stop in front of the last parcel with a large sign indicating that it was the future home of TayTech, a series of construction trailers already occupying the space.

She parked her car on the edge of the road and stepped out. Dust and fumes swirled around, as she stood silently surveying the scene in front of her.

“Hey, pretty girl.” She hadn’t noticed Brad’s car on site, or that he had exited the construction trailer to join her. “I didn’t expect to see you here.”

He stood behind her, wrapping his arms around her. “Happy anniversary, Your Worship,” he offered, kissing her cheek.

  “You remembered?”

“Of course I did. This is a pretty special day, Kate.”

“Some might call this a big mess.” She smiled. “But I think it’s one of the most beautiful sites I’ve ever seen.”

“What makes it so beautiful?” he asked, kissing her hair.

She took a deep breath. “I guess it’s because we’re building a future,” she responded over her shoulder. “I feel like we’re giving people hope.”

  “That is beautiful.”

“I know that there is more work to be done, but no matter what I do, for the rest of my life,” she paused, looking all around her, “I will always know that what has happened here is changing lives.”

“I love you, Katherine Callahan Taylor.”

Kate turned toward Brad and looked into his eyes as she wrapped her arms around his neck. “I love you, Bradley Taylor.” She sighed heavily before kissing his lips. “I think we’ve built something more important than just a smart city, Brad. We’ve built us. This is the most incredible future I could ever have imagined.”

  ABOUT THE AUTHOR

I consider myself to be an accidental author. That’s right, becoming a published author happened, by chance.

For years, I’ve worked in the corporate world. Essentially, I’m a problem solver for corporations and government. So, you can imagine how much of a shift it was for me to sit down and write.

During the summer of 2013, I put pen to paper. I let my sexy imagination loose, and before I knew it I’d filled a more than a few pages. The characters came to life and the story began to take shape.

I’m blessed with incredible friends who were willing to read as I wrote. They offered insight and suggestions, but most importantly they offered unconditional support and encouragement to keep writing.

And so began the greatest chapter of my life.

My first manuscript took just over a month to write. With just over 64,000 words, I’d taken the main characters, Kate Callahan and Bradley Taylor on a journey. I had my friends read Passion, Power, and Privilege and then made several edits in response to their suggestions. In October of 2013, I sent my little baby off to a select group of publishers. And waited.

I was hooked. While I waited, I started writing another novel. An entirely new set of characters, a new setting, and a new plot began to take shape. By the end of October, I’d put the finishing touches on Going the Distance, the story of Austin Campbell and Brett Tanner.

Writing has been cathartic. Becoming published has been exhilarating.

This journey isn’t over. I continue to write, as time permits. A third manuscript is in the works.
